What we do

Chiropractic treatment is available at the Abington Clinic.

Chiropractors provide care for patients of all ages, who present with a range of acute and chronic conditions.  As well as advice about self-help exercise, diet and lifestyle, chiropractors often provide support for pain management, sports injuries and active rehabilitation.

Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.  There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal manipulation or adjustment (World Federation of Chiropractic 1999)

Chiropractors take an integrated and holistic approach to the health needs of their patients, considering physical, psychological and social factors.   They provide care and support by reducing pain and disability and by restoring normal function to people with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.

Chiropractors are concerned with the framework of bones and muscles that support the body.  Some problems of the musculoskeletal system can be caused by accidents, stress, incorrect lifting, poor posture, illness and every day wear and tear.  These problems may cause pressure on the nerves in the body.

What we treat

Chiropractic treatment is simply a method of adjusting the bones of your body to improve skeletal alignment.  In doing so, it helps your nervous system work more efficiently, relieves pain and discomfort and increases mobility.

  • Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints
  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Muscular aches
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritic pain
  • Headache and migraine
  • Posture

The benefits

At our specialist chiropractic clinic, our chiropractors use a range of techniques to return your bones to their normal position or motion, releasing any joint restrictions allowing correct neurological and circulatory supply to the organs and muscles of the body. The main technique is manipulation and this is where quick, specific and gentle movements are applied to the spine and other joints by the hand which simply adjusts the joint in question. By identifying the joints that aren’t aligned or moving properly, and restoring normal alignment and motion, muscular spasm, inflammation and pain are reduced so that the body’s natural healing can take place.

Depending upon your condition, our chiropractors may well also use a selection of soft tissue techniques (massage), as well as stretching, mobilisation techniques, exercises and advice to help release muscle tension, achieve normal alignment and motion of your vertebrae and aid your long-term recovery.

What you can expect after your chiropractic treatment?

During a course of chiropractic care you can expect to feel physical changes as your body realigns.  These may include stiffness or tiredness, particularly after your first session. Your chiropractor will give you advice on aftercare and any necessary lifestyle changes to help you get the most out of your care.  Plus, as part of your treatment we use our specialist expertise and techniques to help and advise you on how to recognise and prevent similar type injuries in the future.

Chiropractic treatment prices

As we deal with people and their injuries on an individual basis, no course of chiropractic treatment is ever the same. As a result, prices can vary depending upon the nature of your injury and the course of treatment or therapy that is followed.

Once we have had an opportunity to assess and review your case and before beginning any treatment, we will always advise you of the type of costs that you can expect. Only when you are 100% happy will we start to treat your injury and then manage your successful recovery and rehabilitation.
